  • It is not a one time thing – colouring needs maintenance so keep both the time and expense of maintenance in mind
  • Invest in top quality hair products – you need to care for your hair even more after it has been coloured.
  • Changing the colour of your hair will change the colour of your face – when you dye your hair darker your skin tone will appear to look lighter and vice versa.
  • Remember to ask your top Braintree hairdressers for advice on colouring your hair – we are happy to help.

There are so many gorgeous colours to choose from and it can be slightly overwhelming especially as changing our hair colour (or colours!) can make us look so very different! Here are some things to think about but please please give us a call on 01376 618 055 to arrange a time to chat about your colour choice.

You need to try to make sure your skin tone and hair color complement one another. Getting the combination of skin tone and hair color shade right can make all the difference to your new look.
To find our what your skin tone is
a) Stand in natural light, wearing neutral or white colored clothing
b) Use a handheld mirror to look at your face (no make up!),
c) What is the tone or hue of your skin?Does it have warm, yellow or reddish tones or do you have cool, neutral or pinkish tones?

Focus on the most distinct tones as we all have different skin tone variations but for your hair colour choice you need to focus on the most obvious skin tone features.

Remember that the colour of your eyes can define your facial features, hair and hair color. In an ideal world you should select a hair colour based on the tone of the colour of your eyes.

Also remember the stronger the contrast between your hair color and skin tone, the more dramatic your overall look will appear! White blonde hair with dark ears and eyebrows – not that is dramatic! If you require a blended, natural look be sure to contact us to arrange an appointment.

Think about your makeup when you make a dramatic or subtle change to your hair color. If you make a big change in your hair color shade, you also may want to change your foundation color and eye makeup. Ask the Martini’s girls for advice if you are unsure.

Rock gray or white hair? Gray hair is tricky, If you are lucky enough to have gray hair with an overall cool tone, and a healthy shiny quality, it can work for you. If your gray hair has a dullness or yellow cast, it is really best to color your hair with a light neutral shade to give you shine and contrast to your skin tone.
Red hair? For warm red shades like strawberry red, the best undertones would be warm, like yellow. For cool bright reds, a pink or blue undertone work best.

Blonde hair? For cool neutral blondes, the best skin tone would be pink, cool undertones.
Black hair? Cool undertones such as blue, or pink, are the most dramatic for black hair color.
Dark brown hair? Cool undertones work best, however you can also have a tan and still enjoy dark brown hair!
Light brown hair? If you have golden warm yellow to your skin undertones, a light golden brown shade can work perfectly! If your skin tone is more neutral, you can choose a natural to cool light brown.

Remember to give us a call to arrange an informal chat about your new hair colour! We would love to help you with your decision. Call today on Tel: 01376 618 055 or fill out the form on our contact us page and we will call you back.

  • Try not to wet your lashes for 24 hours after application to give the glue lots of time to cure. This means you should also avoid steam rooms / saunas and swimming during that period.
  • Do not use waterproof mascara on your eyelashes. A water soluble mascara or one designed specifically for eyelash extensions is fine to use, although you’ll probably find that you no longer require mascara.
  • Use cotton swabs to remove makeup by working gently around the eyelashes.
  • Do not use cleansers, makeup removers or moisturisers that contain oil or solvents on your eyes, as these will compromise the bonding agent used to adhere your eyelashes.
  • Do not rub your eyes, instead you should get used to patting your eyes gently which is in fact much better for the eyelashes and the sensitive skin around the eyes.
  • Be careful not to get your eyelashes caught on clothes when you’re dressing and undressing or towels when you’ve showered.
  • Never pull your eyelash extension off as it will pull out your natural eyelash. If you want them removed contact Martini’s to make an appointment.

Very few people have a naturally perfect brow. Eyebrows, like hair color and length, require upkeep, but the results are so worth it. There is nothing like the day after you get your brows done when you look like you have had an eye lift.

Here are some tips on keeping your brows perfectly groomed at all times.

  • Start with a Professional: Sure, you can groom your eyebrows by yourself, but you’ll get a much better job when you pay to have it down. When you are lying back, the technician can easily and evenly shape your brows in a resting, natural position.
  • Put the Messy Popsicle Stick Down: Getting your brows done doesn’t have to mean waxing. Threading is hotter than ever – there is less redness and it’s faster and far more precise than waxing. Plus, unlike waxing, you don’t need to really grow out your brows so there is enough hair for the wax to stick and pull out so outgrowth is minimal. We’re never going back to waxing our brows again.
  • Upkeep at Home: Once they are done by the professional, you can easily keep the shape at home when the stragglers start coming in. Take a minute each night before bed to tweeze out the ones that grow back quickly.
  • Make Them Pop: It’s true, shape is the most important thing – everyone can benefit from a brow shaping. Once shaped, however, it’s time to make them pop. Here are some ways to get even more from your brows.
  • Brush Them Into Place: Each morning, using a brow brush or a soft toothbrush, brush your brows into place. It will take all of two seconds and will leave them perfectly placed.
  • Use a Highlighter: Putting a bit of highlighter right under the arch of your brow will accentuate the brow bone, leaving you looking younger and your eyes looking bigger.f the Line Skin Products. Apply Now for Free Samples.

Shellac is pretty indestructible if you are doing normal routine activities – you have added a little protection to your nails but we would recommend wearing gloves for household cleaning and gardening, Here are some other tips and tricks to help you maintain your fantastic Shellac nails…

  • If you are on holiday please be careful when using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain DEET which will cause major damage to the Shellac colour coat.
  • If you cause some damage to the Shellac coating and see any lifting or peeling, please do NOT pick or pull at the lifted area, as this will cause the lifting to increase and could even damage the natural nail. Please contact the Martini’s so we can assess the nail and decide if a repair is necessary. Please note that repairs will be chargeable.
  • Use hand and/or body lotion daily to prolong the life of your Shellac and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturised and flexible. Ideally a nail oil should be used too. Ask the Martini’s girls to recommend a good brand for you.
  • If you wish to temporarily change the colour of your nails whilst wearing Shellac you can use nail enamel over the Shellac but please be sure to use an Acetone Free Remover when removing nail polish.
  • Your Shellac will need fortnightly or three weekly maintenance as there will be obvious re-growth. At this point we can either re-Shellac your nails (remove existing Shellac and applying a fresh new colour) or remove the Shellac completely which takes a brief 20 minutes.

Men’s hands are supposed to be strong and perhaps not as smooth as ladies hands however they can be well kept and tidy. Martini’s provides a male manicure service to help set gents on the path to well kept hands – start with a manicure with the Martini’s girls (call 01376 618 055 or complete our contact us form) and then follow the tips below.

1. Start with the Clippers
Start by resting the clippers on your nail and clip no more than three to four times per nail following its natural curve, Do not push inward and do not worry about making the nails perfectly shaped as the next step will help with that.

2. Next is Smoothing
Next, smooth out your nail with a file. Don’t panic” It does not have to be the big pink thing your wife or girlfriend uses!! Use a metal version to even out the edges until you have a slightly rounded shape.

3. Sort those Cuticles
The tissue at the back of your nails, or cuticles, connects it to your skin. If they creep out too far, they can fray and become scratchy to the touch. Dry cuticles are also more apt to get caught on clothing and bleed. Caring for cuticles is important so please speak with the Martinis girls as to how to ensure you are pushing them back correctly.

4. Hangnails No More
That annoying piece of skin that sticks out between your nail and skin near the tip of your finger is a dreaded hang nail. The reason they hurt like hell and bleed when you pull them out is because they’re still attached to the thin skin around your nail. Instead of yanking them, use a hangnail clipper to remove excess skin at the base right after a shower when they’re still soft.

5. Buff Those Cracks
Did you know that your nails completely regrow every four to six months which means you do not need to put up with lumps, bumps or cracks on the nail surface. Rub some oil into your hands (ask the Martinis girls about which one) and then rub a buffer flat across the defect until it feels smooth to the touch.

Well cared for hands – it only takes 5 minutes!
